Position E5

Whitney Hansen - Age 46: Burlington, CO

Board Chair currently serving a three-year term expiring in 2026 and is a member of the Association’s Scholarship, Governance and Strategy, Compensation, and Special Investigations Committees. She also serves on the CoBank 2026-2027 Nominating Committee and was a member of the CoBank Restructuring Committee in 2025. Mrs. Hansen is a fifth generation Oklahoma cattle rancher, married to a fourth generation Colorado farmer. She and her husband have two boys, and they maintain a cow/calf operation in Oklahoma. Over the last 20 years, she has become an integral part of Hansen Family Farms, an irrigated, dryland farm raising corn, wheat, and millet in the Burlington area. Mrs. Hansen is a partner in D&M Farms Corp and Han-Son’s LLLP, raising corn, wheat, and millet. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agricultural Communication and Animal Science and is a founding member of the Blue River Foundation of Oklahoma and a member of multiple organizations throughout Colorado and Oklahoma.

Michael Shields – Age 56: Westcliffe, CO

Mr. Shields previously served on the Farm Credit of Southern Colorado’s Board of Directors from 2019 to 2022 and was the Vice-Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Association’s Compensation Committee. Mr. Shields was raised near Coaldale and currently resides in Westcliffe, Colorado in Custer County. Ranching has been his principal occupation for the past thirty years. He is self-employed as a limited partner in his family-owned limited liability partnership, San Isabel Ranch, LLP, and his agricultural operation consists of a cow/calf and stocker operation and a hay ranch. Mr. Shields is a member of the Custer County Planning and Zoning Committee and serves on the Board for the Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District.Mr. Shields attended Wayne State College.

Brad Lubbers - Age 44: Lamar, CO

Mr. Lubbers grew up and currently lives north of Lamar, CO. He attended West Texas A&M and received a Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Plant, Soil, and Environmental Sciences. Starting in 2002, Mr. Lubbers spent 19 years working with Texas Cattle Feeders Association and then with Five Rivers Cattle Feeding maintaining cattle feedlot environmental compliance in Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona. In 2007 he partnered with his father and purchased land under the Fort Lyon Canal north of Lamar. In 2009, he became a member of the Farm Credit system with another land purchase under the Amity Canal, also north of Lamar. Mr. Lubbers and his family moved back to Colorado in 2015. He and his wife, Whitney, have 3 children and live on the family farm north of Lamar. Here he and his father primarily produce alfalfa, with corn, wheat, and grain sorghum in rotation. In 2021, Mr. Lubbers went to work with the Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District where he currently manages the grant work for the district. This work finds cooperating producers to install farm practices that improve water quality in the Lower Arkansas Basin. Lower Ark, through these grants, provide cost-share money to put in center-pivot sprinklers and other practices which have shown to have a positive effect on water quality.

Thomas McWilliams, D.O., FACOFP – Age 75: Alamosa, CO

Dr. McWilliams was previously board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine. He was the founding Associate Dean in the establishment of two medical colleges and served as the Dean for one. He was the project Director for numerous federal grants and served as the Chair for the Advisory Committee for Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Mac was a Lt. Commander in the U.S Public Health Service. He received numerous professional awards, was the Co-chair of the Arizona Board of Medical Student Loans, and served on the Alaska Medical Advisory Board, the Arizona Telemedicine Council, and the AZ Rural Health Association and others. He completed five educational fellowships and was a full Professor. Now semi-retired, he is the co-owner/manager of Spirit Bear Ranch LLC, a cow/calf operation raising Irish Dexter and Belted Galloway cattle and miniature Sicilian donkeys. He and his wife, DeLoss, (a teacher and professional artist) have two married sons (both physicians). They have been restoring a historic ranch within the National Forest and previously owned a farm in Missouri that was also financed through Farm Credit. Dr. Mac was also a lookout, a wilderness guard, a commercial fisherman in Alaska and outfitted for wilderness trips throughout Alaska. He volunteers each summer to work with an Amish crew to clear wilderness trails within Rio Grande National Forest.

J. Kent Price - Age 61: Monte Vista, CO

Currently serving a three-year term as Director, expiring in 2026. He serves as Chair of the Association’s Risk Committee and is a member of the Governance and Strategy Committee. Mr. Price is a partner in Price Farms LLC, Price Farms Certified Seed LLC, Heritage Farms LLC, and San Acacio Seed LLC. His operations specialize in the production of certified seed potatoes, commercial potatoes, and small grains. A graduate of Adam's State University (1987), Mr. Price returned to his family's farm and has continued to build and expand the operations. Throughout his career, Mr. Price has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Sargent School Board, various water boards, church boards, Colorado Certified Seed Potatoes Committee, and the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee. Mr. Price and his wife, Lorena, have been married for over 40 years. They have four children, and their third son has returned to continue the family farming tradition.

Jessica Lutz – Age 41: Franktown, CO

Mrs. Lutz and her husband, Collin, farm corn and wheat in Nebraska and own a small-scale bison ranch in Elbert County. She is the owner of Lost Arrow Buffalo Co, LLC, a bison meat retail company. She has a Master of Science degree in Agriculture Engineering specializing in water management and soil physics. She worked at the United States Patent & Trademark Office as a Patent Engineer for 13 years, examining patent applications for construction and agriculture machinery. She is a member of the National Bison Association and Rocky Mountain Bison Association. Mrs. Lutz has four children, ages 3, 7, 9, and 11 and enjoys volunteering in the schools, sharing her excitement of farming and ranching with the next generation.

Chase Rushton – Age 39: Holly, CO

Accompanied by his wife Nicole and four kids; Byron, Landree, Kadee, and Cordell, Mr. Rushton operates a dryland wheat, milo, and forage sorghum farm south of Holly, CO. After obtaining his associates degree from Northeastern Junior College he went to West Texas A&M University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and AgBusiness and Economics. In 2010, he returned home to become a fourth-generation family farmer. While maintaining their farming operation Mr. Rushton and his father built a set of pens and handling facilities for a calf backgrounding operation. With help from Farm Credit, they have been aggressively growing both sides of the enterprises and have expanded their farming acres by 150% and the backgrounding yard by 80%. Residing in his paternal grandparents renovated homesite they have also built a successful show pig program, SOCO showpigs, and are blessed with a great client base from Oregon to Florida and Wyoming to Texas and compete at the local 4-H/ FFA level and national shows as well. Together with his cousin, they also started a cow/calf operation, Hart Cattle Company LLP, with the main headquarters in Coolidge, KS. For the past 5 years Mr. Rushton has served on the Eastern Prowers Weed Control board and Holly Gateway Fair board. Reflecting on the past 16 fast-paced years he feels that it is nice to see some advancements but feels like they’re just getting started. Even with the current farming situation they look forward to navigating through the next 16 years and are excited about what the future holds and new opportunities it may bring. Matthew Seger - Age 53: Del Norte, CO

Director currently serving a three-year term expiring in 2026 and is Chair of the Special Investigations Committee, and a member of the Association’s Risk and Scholarship Committees. Mr. Seger has a potato, seed canola, and malt barley operation in the Monte Vista area. Mr. Seger and his wife have been farming since 1997, and he has been a Farm Credit stockholder since 2002. He is a graduate of Colorado State University. Mr. Seger is currently on the Board of the United Potato Growers of Colorado. He has also been a representative for the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee and Colorado Certified Potato Growers and previously served nine years on the Board of the Monte Vista Coop.
